Sashiko Patching Workshop

Bella Vita, 7315 Greenwood Ave N, Seattle, WA

Wed July 29 - 6:30-8:30pm

Bring garments or textiles you’d like to mend or embellish to our hands‑on patching workshop with a focus on sashiko style stitching methods.

Learn methods of hand sewing patches and stitching sashiko inspired designs, explore decorative stitching, and leave with revived pieces you can be proud of—all in a relaxed, supportive environment.

Sherry will demonstrate several methods for hand‑sewing patches and adding sashiko‑inspired designs, and you’ll have time to practice and work on your own items. You'll have the opportunity to use stick-on design templates to stitch sashiko designs, or try your hand to design our own.

Topics Covered:
Understanding different types of fabrics
How to choose the right patch
Raw‑edge vs. folded‑edge hems
When and how to patch from both sides
How to sew a blanket stitch
How to secure a patch using sashiko‑style stitches
How to use stick‑on design templates (we will use Sulky Stick ’n Stitch)

Please Bring:
Garments or textiles that need mending, stain‑covering, or embellishing. Scrap fabric will also be available for practice.

Limited to 10 students, sign up at: https://bellavitahome.com/pages/events#?event-id=84411

Craft-fullness Retreat Nov 7 - 11, 2024

Charleston, South Carolina

I will be teaching at an upcoming creative retreat in Kiawah Island (just outside of Charleston, North Carolina) in November! Craft-fullness Retreat takes place November 7 to 11, 2024 in a beautiful beach house and it will be a long weekend of crafting, gallery visits, yoga, and mindfulness. I find the act of making something with your hands to be so therapeutic and satisfying, and creative self-care has been personally so important to me. I will be teaching sashiko, a traditional Japanese sewing method, and I cannot wait for this wonderful weekend!I'm thrilled to be working with Daisy McClellan again - some of you may remember that her and I collaborated on a couple of clothing lines back in San Francisco for her boutique, gather!
Space is limited to 10 participants, so don't dilly dally :) Sign up here.
